ASEAN and Asia Studies Center (AASC) Establishment
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, the 12th President of the National Institute of Development Administration (2007-2013) officially initiated the establishment of the ASEAN and Asia Studies Center (AASC) in April 2013. The Center was then officially established by the regulation of the National Institute of Development Administration on the ASEAN and Asia Studies Center Management and Administration B.E. 2556 (2013), which was announced on May 8, 2013 by the Chairperson of the National Institute of Development Administration Board of Regents (Associate Professor Dr. Chirayu Isarangkul Na Ayutthaya).
The Center began as an attempt of the management for developing and coordinating worldwide academics connections according to the NIDA’s master strategic plan on international affairs. Since 2007, NIDA has actively initiated and involved in worldwide academics activities by visiting the higher educational institutions in 17 countries and having more than 30 meetings with their administrators.
The ASEAN and Asia Studies Center, National Institute of Development Administration, is a regional research center particularly on ASEAN and Asia, which inspires research and debates within scholarly circles, enhancing public awareness, and facilitating the search for viable solutions.
The ASEAN and Asia Studies Center, National Institute of Development Administration, has the following, but not limited to, missions related to ASEAN development and Asia studies:
- providing a congenial and stimulating intellectual environment,
- encouraging the fullest interaction and exchange of ideas in an unfettered ambience, conducts a range of research programs,
- organizing conferences, workshops, lectures and seminars,
- producing research journals and books, and
- providing a range of research support facilities, including a large library collection.
